Great Lakes Ruby Bash have started.

Registration has been phenomenal. 70 registered attendees.

Tasty Lunches

We decided not to go with the cheapest lunches and spend just a little more to get something nice. Lunch bags will be provided by the Glass House Cafe, located inside the Palmer Commons, and which is the Ann Arbor outpost of Evans Street Station. They have nine sandwiches to choose from, two of which are vegetarian.

Of the sandwiches offered, here are the top four ordered by our attendees:

Stacked Ham with Vermont white cheddar, lettuce, tomato, and Dijon mustard
Shaved Roast Beef with horseradish cream, crispy onion, and arugula
Smoked Turkey with jarlsberg, lettuce, tomato, and aioli
Grilled Portabello with roasted red pepper, red onion, provolone and pesto

Stacked Ham is currently the favorite, with at three-way tie for second place.

We can still get your lunch order in if you register for the conference by the end of the day (Tuesday, October 7th, 11:59pm EDT). Register here!

We are excited to announce that Jim Weirich — well-known and prolific Rubyist and a highly rated speaker — will be giving a talk at the Great Lakes Ruby Bash. His talk is entitled Playing it Safe — How to write library friendly code in Ruby.

Seeking Talk Proposals

We are pleased to announce that we are accepting talk proposals for the Great Lakes Ruby Bash to be held in Ann Arbor, Mich. on Saturday, October 11th.

Talks that are either 30 minutes or 1 hour in length are requested. You can specify whether you could provide your talk in either (or both) lengths of time.

Anything that’s related to Ruby is welcome. Here are some possible ideas:

The Ruby lanugage itself
Interesting techniques or approaches in Ruby
Useful and cool libraries, new or old
Web frameworks such as Rails, Merb, etc.
Software development philosophies or techniques
Using Ruby in interesting ways or contexts
The business side of Ruby and/or Rails
Whatever you think would be interesting to the Ruby community….

Registration for the Great Lakes Ruby Bash is now open. The cost will be $50 and will include lunch. The bash will take place in Forum Hall of Palmer Commons at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor. We’ll keep you updated as we add speakers and sponsors.
